A glabrous tall shrub with large, ovate, serrate leaves. Flowers axillary, solitary, large, red, showy, subpendulous on long, articulate,
4 - 8 cm long pedicels.
Epicalyx-segments 6 - 9, 5 - 15 mm long. Staminal-column slightly exserted,
antheriferous near the apex. Capsule c. 2 cm long, glabrous.
It is extensively cultivated in Saudi Arabia and elsewhere as an ornamental bush.
