Perennial subglabrous basally stiff, multi - stemmed shrubby herb. 1 m tall, branches quadrangular  glabrous above

:Leaves
Leaves pinnately deeply divided, the lobules short, rarely denticulate

:Inflorescences
-Verticillasters 2-10 flowered , arranged in simple or branched spikes , floral leaves bract - like , sometimes imbricate , in some species the uppermost coloured and showy
-Calyx cylindrical - tubular , c . 4-5 mm long ; teeth short , lanceolate , equal , acute.
-Corolla pale - blue , tube exserted , about twice the length of calyx and bent outwards below the limb slightly bilabiate
-Stamens 4 , included in corolla - tube , didynamous ; the anterior pair longe .
-Style branches flat.stigma generally 2-lobed. Nutlets ± ovoid , c . 1.5 x 1 mm mucilaginous on wetting
