English Name: Delhi grass, Marvel grass.
Arabic Name: Zamzoom, Hemeira. حميره-زمزوم
A tussocky perennial grass with woody rootstock. Culms up to 1 m Hall:
modes hairy. Leaf-blades flat or rolled, 3-30 cm long, 2-7 mm wide.
Inflorescence of 2-15, shortly peduncled, digitate or subdigitate spikes.
Spikelets more or less imbricate with or without the lower few pairs on a spike
homogamous. Sessile spikelets 2-6 mm long; lower glume tough, pubescent or
long-hairy below the middle; the awns 8-25 mm long, stout.
Saudi Arabia: All regions, usually as a weed in agricultural areas and lawns or
