Aerva javanica (Burm.f.) Juss
Perennial, dioecious herbs or subshrubs, branched and often woody at base. Stem and branches usually densely while
tomentose. Leaves alternate, sessile to shortly petiolate, densely white - to yellowish-tomentose, the tomentum thinner
on the upper surface; much variable in size and shape from narrowly linear to suborbiculate, flat or with more or las
involute margins. Spikes sessile, cylindrical, dense and rather stout to slender in female plants, often interrupled
basally with globose flower-clusters; the spikes slender in male plants. Female flowers with the 2 outer perinte
segments 2 = 3 mm, slightly longer than the 3 inner ones dorsally woolly, the midrib ending much below the lips ofte
membranous perianth-segments : style distinct with 2 filiform stigmas; stamens reduced to short filaments only; Nat
flowers smaller, stamens 5, pseudostaminodes narrowly triangular; ovary small with very short style and rudinesian
stigmas. Seeds shiny brown or black.
