Diagnostic description:
Annual erect or decumbent paniculately branched herb up to about 50 cm tall. Branches whitish-green. Lamina ovate rhombic to ovate to lanceolate acute obtuse or emarginate the veins usually white prominent on the underside midrib ending in a sharp spinulose mucro. Inflorescence of few-flowered sessile axillary clusters forming loose often long leafy inflorescences. Male and female flowers intermixed bracts and bracteoles rigid longer than flowers spinescent at tip. Female perianth 3 narrowly oblong- elliptic acuminate. Capsule irregularly circumcissile. seeds shiny black
