Annual to perennial herbs. Leaves alternate, simple, entire to variously lobed. Capitula heterogamous, disciform in corymbs or panicles. Involucral bracts several-seriate, imbricate, narrow, scarious, the outermost broader and often herbaceous. Receptacle flat to convex, naked. Ray florets pistillate, fertile, ligulate or tubular, yellow. Disc florets hermaphrodite, perfect, tubular, 5-toothed, yellow. Anthers caudate. Style branches flattened. Achenes cylindrical, ribbed. Pappus 2-seriate, the inner of long, white, scabrid distinct hairs, the outer very short, connate into a cup.
An Old World genus comprising about 60 species. A dozen species are found in Saudi Arabia.
