Inflrescences :Panicle purplish, rather narrow-spicate, 6-20 (-30) cm long; the axis hispid - pilose , cylindrical with shallow angular ribs below the spikelet cluster scars ; spikelet - clusters stipitate, of 1-3 spikelets of which one is sessile. Bristle 15-30 ( -40 ) mm long . at least the inner bristles plumose . Spikelets lanceolate, 4.5-6 mm long (excluding the pedicels); lower glume missing, or up to 1/3 the length of the spikelet, subrotund; upper glume 1/4 to 2/3 the length of the spikelet ; lower lemma as long as the spikelet, acuminate, male or sterile; upper lemma similar to the lower lemma
Leaves: blade up to 30 cm long, rigid, inrolled, 2-3 mm wide, the midrib thick on the upper surface (a little raised above the surface, not depressed).
