Bromus fasciculatus Presl
Annual or perennial grasses. Leaf-blades sometimes auriculate; sheath usually hairy. Inflorescence usually of large open or dense panicles. Spikelets usually large; several-flowered, lemmas prominently exserted from the glumes and awned from the sinus of the 2-toothed tip or from below the sinus; styles 2, lateral from just below the hairy apex of the ovary. A genus of about 90 species of which 10 (or more) are found in Saudi Arabia. Previous reports about the presence of B. arvensis L. (Migahid 1978), B. fasciculatus Presl. (De Marco & Dinelli 1974; Migahid 1978; Chaudhary & Cope 1983), and B. tectorum L. (De Marco and Dinelli 1974; Migahid 1978; and Chaudhary and Cope 1983) have not been confirmed from the present study. De Marco & Dinelli, and Migahid had not cited any material for their reports. The B. fasciculatus material (RIY 3269, 3204) cited by Chaudhary & Cope 1983 turned out to be B. haussknechtii Boiss. while their "B. tectorum" material is either B. pulchellus Fig. & De Not. (RIY 904 & 3869) or B. sericeus Drobov (RIY 514, 3204-A, 3336 and 3488). The following key also includes other species of Bromus that are expected to occur in Saudi Arabia. B. fasciculatus Presl., B. japonicus Thunb., B. lanceolatus Roth, B. squarrosus L., B. sterilis L. and B. tectorum L., included in the key, have not been seen from Saudi Arabia and are not described
