Stipagrostis hirtigluma (Steudel. ex Trin.) & Rupr.) de Wint.
An annual or short-lived perennial, tufted grass up to 75(-80) cm tall.
Culms 2-3-noded, often branched. Leaves mostly basal, leaf-blades rolled, conduplicate or sometimes flat, setaceous, 6-20 cm long, c. 1 mm wide, scabrellous, scabrid or hirtellous. Panicle 10-20 cm long, narrow or open. Spikelets pale yellow, usually with purple base; glumes 3-nerved, densely
hairy, unequal, lower glume (6-) 9-11 mm long, upper glume 10-13 mm long; lemma 3-4 mm long, articulated at the tip with the awn-column, callus 0.5 to
c. 1 mm long, with two distinct collars of hairs, acute; awn-column 7-10 mm
long, plumose in the upper 1/2 to 2/3rd; lateral branches of the awn naked,
very fine, up to 13 mm long, central branch plumose except for the top c. 5
mm, up to 60 mm long.
