Diagnostic description:
A perennial grass up to about 1m tall. Leaf- blades up to 40 cm long, flat, 2-3 mm wide, acute. Spikelets 3-4 flowered; lower glume 1.2-1.5 mm long, upper 1.7-2.5 mm long; lowest lemma narrowly elliptic in side-view, ciliate along the margins and the keel, the awn up to 7 mm long; 2nd, 3rd (and 4th when present) lemmas reduced, the 2nd and 3rd, too, awned
